I’m fresh off a fantastic weekend and when I have a good weekend I have to write about it (pics or it didn’t happen, right? Ha!) so that’s what I’m sharing about today.
Friday evening we kicked off the weekend with some delicious tacos for dinner. I also had a chance to briefly treat myself with the Twin Cities Moms Blog Moms Night Out series at Waxing the City. They had a deal where we could come in and get a wax service, a glass of wine and some snacks. I had my brows done. I hadn’t done so in SO long and they look so much better. The gal who did my brows also filled them in for me and might have to do that more often. It really makes them pop!
Saturday morning Nate had to work, so Ollie and I had a mommy/Ollie morning. I took him on a coffee date and then we picked up my mom and went out to Style Encore and Once Upon a Child. It was my lucky day, while I was at coffee I got a text from both places that because it’s my birthday week I could take 25% off a purchase of $10 or more. So I managed to grab a good haul of clothes for my growing an inch a second child at Once Upon a Child. Then at Style Encore I was also selling some items, so I ended up with $40 of items sold, plus my 25% off. I ended up finding a skirt and two shirts on clearance and then I also found a cute Kate Spade bag they were selling for $65 – but after all the discounts I only spent…wait for it…$20 out of pocket! I was so excited.
We headed back towards my parents and picked Ollie up some McDonalds for lunch. Then I left him with my mom as he was going to be spending the night with her and my dad so Nate and I could go out for our early birthday celebration. I met up with Jen and some friends of hers who have become friends of mine and we ended up doing a wood sign painting party. I made the cutest Christmas sign – that I don’t have a picture of because I’m a dork. I’ll have to share it later.
I headed home and was able to enjoy a long hot shower with the music blasting while I waited for Nate to get home from work. Such a luxury! He came home and we headed out to UpDown Arcade in Minneapolis. It’s a grown-up old school arcade with all the old classic video games and a bar. We each had a beer and enjoyed playing such classics as Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong and lots of pinball games. The games are seriously cheap – 25 cents a play. Nate would like to build his own arcade cabinet, so he found lots of inspiration and ideas while we were there!
We were in the mood for some good sushi, so then we headed for dinner at Osaka in Roseville. We enjoyed a nice sushi platter for two and also some delicious tempura. And we were convienetly next to a Lunds and Byerly’s store, so after dinner we walked over there and grabbed ourselves a chocolate torte for dessert! We brought that home and enjoyed it with our traditional birthday scotch and a movie. And then we went to bed and on Sunday morning we slept in. And that felt really good.
But as fun as all that was I was very happy when my parents dropped Ollie back off at home. I miss that bugger when he’s gone! We took him to Caribou and then we went and did our Thanksgiving shopping. Then Nate decided he was in a Jamaican mood so we picked up some food from Pimento for lunch. He worked on cleaning up the yard and I worked on cleaning up the house a bit. After that Ollie and I worked on some Thanksgiving crafts. Everyone is going to have the cutest placecard on Thanksgiving day! We finished the day over at my in-laws for dinner with them and we all crashed pretty hard last night.
It was a great mix of time for myself, time with Nate and time with Ollie this weekend. I needed that. I love, love, LOVE, being a mom, but sometimes it’s important to have that “me time” to remind myself that first and foremost I am still ME. Nate and I needed that couple time to reconnect with each other and remember we’re still US. And like I said, once Ollie was back home again I was happy to remember I am still MOM. I’m happy. I’m smiling. It’s a good way to start this Thanksgiving week.
