Thinking Out Loud – On Holidays

Welcome to another edition of Thinking Out Loud Thursday. I’m joining both Penny’s Passion and Running with Spoons for this weekly linkup. Today I’m thinking out loud about the holidays.

I have always been the person who does not want to do anything with Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I have a birthday around Thanksgiving and so does Nate, so I usually want to focus on that. And I love Thanksgiving. It’s such a warm, cozy feeling holiday. So, I try to give it it’s place and keep it it’s own thing as much as possible.

This year though. I don’t know what it is, but I’m really trying hard to not jump right into Christmas. I’m just so holiday giddy this year it’s crazy. I’m not taking out my decorations yet, as tempting as that is. I’m resisting my Christmas music but I might stream a little soon. I am now the proud owner of three pairs of Christmas leggings, two of which I’ve already worn. I have the most epic holiday sweatshirt that I intend to get as many wears out of as possible because it’s Santa riding a freaking Unicorn. And as I mentioned in my holiday movie post, I have already seen one Christmas movie. I even have a couple of Christmas presents bought already. WHO AM I??

But as much as I’m getting a little Christmas antsy, I am trying to really focus on Thanksgiving. We’re hosting my in-laws again this year. I can’t wait to decorate my table. I have a fun idea to make place-mats with Ollie, we’ll do hand print turkeys. I have a few other crafts saved that I just might do with him as well. Tonight we’re buying our turkey and other fixings. I think I might see if I can get Ollie to watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving with me as well. It’s one of my favorite specials, I love their popcorn feast! On Thanksgiving Day, my sister-in-law and I will kick off the day with a 5k. Then I’ll be baking apple pie with my mom while watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. And then later in the day we’ll enjoy a feast.

But I tell you, once that last Thanksgiving meal dish is cleaned and put away – Christmas is in FULL FORCE. I’m ready. Bring it on.

Are you already in a holiday mood?

  1. Oh my goodness I’m already in a full Christmas mood!!! I’ve been listening to music to try and help bring my spirits up. I can’t wait to decorate our house. I also want to try and finish getting our lights up this year – we are kind of slacking in that department.

  2. Oh, I am TOTALLY in the holiday spirit, too. And I’m trying to contain myself, but like you, I’m feeling Christmas spirit early this year. I love that you have MULTIPLE holiday leggings and that you are the owner of that fantastic sweatshirt, which is seriously incredible 🙂 Awww, sounds like you have a great Thanksgiving lined up this year (just me, or is it sneaking up on us?!). XOXO

  3. Honestly, I’m not really fan of Thanksgiving. I know it’s crazy but I don’t mind hardly any of the food and we don’t really do much. I’ll probably see a movie with my dad. I’m already in the Christmas spirit. I’m buying gifts – gotta spread it out on paychecks, I have one pair of leggings that I MUST wear soon, I’m preparing for my annual cookie exchange party, I’m watching Christmas movies (mostly just Hallmark ones right now; my family loves them lol). But I get wanting to slow down too and enjoy each holiday as they come – and your birthdays!!

  4. My benchmark for holiday change is after the national Remembrance Day ceremony (so roughly 12 noon on November 11th). That was a rule growing up so it’s stuck with me. And we always start with playing Six White Boomers by Rolf Harris (but ever since he was incarcerated in 2014 for sex assault on four minors, it hasn’t been as jolly).

  5. I also usually hold off on the christmas cheer until December 1, or at least after thanksgiving. but, I did give all my coworkers christmas chocolate calendars today (its been a rough week). I love that sweater, so cute!!

  6. That sweater is awesome!!
I’m usually in a festive mood around now but just not feeling it this year and I really want to! I’ve planned to put the tree up early December – maybe I’ll feel more festive then. Taking out my Boney M CD should also help.

  7. I’m one that tried to wait until after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas decorating. I was just noticing in our neighborhood about 50% of the people already have Christmas decorations out. My very fall decorated porch is sandwiched by my neighbors on each side of me fully decorated for Christmas!

  8. I tend to be one of those people who starts listening to Christmas music on November 1st (although for some reason not this year… weird) so I understand! I do love Thanksgiving too though and I really want to make it special this year instead of letting it get lost in the crazy holiday shuffle. You gave me some good ideas–maybe Jona and I will make little placemats, that sounds like fun!

  9. Your sweatshirt is epic. 🙂 So, I’m guilty of starting Christmas preparations in mid November. 🙂 I love Thanksgiving too, but I guess in my head I combine it with Christmas so it’s like two months of holidays. But, now that Thanksgiving is officially over, I no longer have to feel awkward about having all of my decorations up! Side note: I can totally see why most people don’t want to deal with Christmas until after Turkey Day!
