This week’s topic for Tuesday topics is like a love language. Four favorite chocolate recipes. I had a hard time narrowing this down. It’s funny, as an adult I find I don’t always gravitate toward chocolate EVERYTHING anymore, but I still do love chocolate. And bad me, I have no pictures of any of the things I’m about to list, so you’ll have to settle for some fun chocolate memes and just pretend. I never said I was a food blogger, right? Ha!
(1) Chocolate chip cookies. I know, so basic and simple right? But there are few things in this world that make me happier than a good old fashioned chocolate chip cookie. There are a few variations of the recipe I enjoy. There’s the Nestle Tollhouse recipe my mom has used since I was a kid. There’s the Cowboy Cookie recipe we inherited from Nate’s parents (it’s a crunchy oatmeal chocolate chip cookie) and I also make the Betty Crocker recipe every now and then. Sometimes we make them with peanut butter chips added in. Sometimes we make double chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are just life. And don’t get me started on cookie dough!
(2) Hot Fudge Swirl cake. This is a cake recipe my mom makes that I love. It’s kind of a marble cake with vanilla frosting, but you swirl hot fudge into the frosting. Oh and there are chocolate chips IN the cake as well. It’s heaven in every bite and usually my pick for a birthday cake.
(3) Caramel Oatmeal Chewies. These are a delicious bar that I realize does not have chocolate in the name, but trust me, there’s chocolate. You mix chocolate chips, oatmeal, caramel and a few other ingredients and bake and you end up with this chewy delightful treat.
(4) Mom’s Chocolate Frosting. I realize most of what’s on my list comes from my mom, but I grew up baking with her, so naturally my favorite things are from her kitchen. Her chocolate frosting is pretty much to die for. We don’t exactly measure the ingredients and that might be the secret to it’s success. I can tell you that you mix powdered sugar, butter, milk, and baking cocoa – either the Hershey’s powder or you can melt a baking square of chocolate. Also put in a splash of vanilla. Mix together and either thin it out with more milk or thicken it with powdered sugar. We keep tasting until it seems right. Then we frost our cake or brownies and put the remaining bowl of frosting out on the counter and my dad and I go to town on it.
Runners up would be Bailey’s Fudge, Chocolate Thumb Print cookies, Brownies and anything with Oreos.
Are you a chocoholic? What’s your favorite recipe?
