Currently in August

I was lamenting yesterday about how it is already AUGUST. Where is the summer going?? Make this madness stop! But we still have a whole month to enjoy before school starts and we’re going to make the most of it. As usual on the first Wednesday of the month I’m linking up with Anne of In Residence and her co-host this month, my buddy Shea of Shea Lennon for Currently. Here are some current happenings in August!

~Currently I Am~

Snacking on – Old Dutch Dutch Crunch in Bistro Blend. Nate found these delightful (or maybe evil) crunchy bits of amazingness at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago when we were off to do a taproom lunch. We may have nearly finished the bag in one sitting. They are SO good. For my non-midwest friends who can’t get Old Dutch chips, my runner up is Lays Bistro Blend in Olive Oil and Herbs. Also delightful.

Anticipating – First and foremost getting my hair cut and colored tonight. So excited for a refresh. Secondly, going up to Duluth for Thomas and Friends next week. Ollie keeps asking if it’s the day we’re going to see Thomas. I think he’s getting pretty excited.

Borrowing – I am borrowing a copy of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks from Jen, I have heard amazing things about this book so I need to get reading it. I’m in the thick of my book club book right now, but this one is next.

Admiring – Nate. I’m really proud of him, he’s decided to start getting up an hour earlier than he used to and work on things (at least things he can do quietly) in the yard to fix and clean it up. In doing that, he doesn’t feel like he’s taking time away from Ollie in the evenings. He’s only been at it for a few days and he’s already done a ton of work too. Maybe it will eventually rub off on me, ha!

Purchasing – I’ve been trying to keep my purchases to a minimum lately and I’m intrigued by an idea Shea brought up of only shopping secondhand for a set period of time, but I had to buy a Kermit the Frog Randy T-shirt when my Lularoe enabler consultant was able to score one in the Disney collection. Because it’s freaking Kermit the Frog.

There are many things I love about August, we should start seeing more veggies out of our garden, the State Fair is coming up, the days are still warm but the sun sets sooner and makes for nice cool evenings. So, I’m glad it’s here, but I sure am not ready to let go of summer quite yet, so I hope it doesn’t go too fast!

  1. We should do the second-hand shopping challenge I think! The more I think about it the more I want to try it. I can’t wait to hear how you like Henrietta Lacks. I haven’t read it, but I’ve heard a lot about it. My husband (who is NOT a reader) read some of it for this team he was on for work and said it was really fascinating.

  2. Yes!! Morning productivity for the win! I’ve always been an early morning riser and I LOVE waking up between 4-4:30 each day because the morning time is MY time and I love it.

  3. I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks earlier this year and really enjoyed the book (because I knew nothing about her story). I am curious what you’re going to think. Fresh haircuts are the best!

  4. Hey love,
The different kinds of potato chips in the states always amazes me. You guys have the most interesting/wackiest flavor combinations.
Have I ever mentioned that I consume a bag of chips by myself? Yeah, I work my butt off during the week and do not deprive myself one bit. 🙂

That’s awesome of Nate to get up earlier so there’s more time for his boy in the evenings. That makes even me smile. 🙂

Feel free to link this up next Monday eh? 🙂

  5. Your goal of cutting back purchasing and the kermit shirt purchase cracked me up. Be strong! lol

Sounds like you’ve got a good August lined up. I’m glad we still have one more month before the school madness begins.

  6. Great job Nate!! I can’t do that. I love sleep. My Mom worked at Old Dutch for 30 years, so we always got free chips. I loved the Crunch ones. I was pretty popular in elementary school when I would bring in big bags of cheesy popcorn to share. Oh I hate cheesy popcorn!
Hey, I am soooo super excited about the state fair. Love it

  7. I can’t believe it’s August already too! My month is going to be full of baking cupcake orders, celebrating my birthday and hopefully hanging out with friends!

  8. Oh my gosh Hendrik would love to go see Thomas too! Have fun 🙂 And Henrietta Lacks is so good. I just heard about the story getting made into a series (HBO, I think?) with Oprah as a producer and also acting in it – I bet that’ll be good too!

  9. Henrietta Lacks has been on my TBR for awhile, because I wanted to read it before the show but didn’t get to it. I’m curious to hear what you think of it! This is the second mention I’ve seen lately of this Lay’s Bistro Blend, I think I’ll have to find it! Completely not on purpose, but most of the clothes I’ve purchased in the last few months (besides undergarments) has been from Poshmark, so secondhand. I like the idea though! Have a great weekend!

  10. Ok, how can I not have commented on this? I have been scouring grocery stores looking for the chips for a week now, and yet I didn’t comment. Apparently we don’t have that flavour in Canada. I know. It’s crazy. But at least we have ketchup flavour?

Damn it, now I need ketchup chips.
