A Visit to the Science Museum

Saturday night we went on a fun family date night to the Science Museum of Minnesota to see the Mythical Creatures exhibit that is running right now. We had a ton of fun!

We met up with Jen and her family at Cossetta’s for dinner first and filled ourselves up on pasta and pizza and then headed to the museum for some fun. It just happened to be the last day of our membership so we were able to get in for free which was awesome. I think we’ll probably be renewing, because Ollie really enjoyed himself this time. Anyway, we wasted no time heading down to the Mythical Creatures right away.

I loved all the various creatures they represented. There were dragons and a huge “kraken” when you come in the door. There was another section on mermaids. And the best part of all, a unicorn! Naturally Jen and I needed a picture since it’s our mascot for North Star Unicorn!

It was a pretty small exhibit but still fun to walk through. We spent some time in the rest of the Science Museum before heading home and the kids seriously had a blast. One of the newer exhibits that is really fun is the Sportsology exhibit that shares about the science of sports.

Ollie also still loves the Wonder Years exhibit that talks about child development. Even though he has one of those Little Tykes red cars he always finds the one they have on display and gets in it right away!

We also walked around Nate’s favorite, the Quackery Museum that features all sorts of old “medical” devices. He and Ollie had a lot of fun with the vibrating chair.

We ended the night over by the dinosaurs, I was pretty proud of Ollie, he used to be too afraid of them to go look, but this time he was into it. Of course I think the kids mostly liked this giant cylinder that they could crawl through that was in that area!

It was seriously a lot of fun, the museum wasn’t terribly busy at that time of the day. We didn’t even get through half of what they have to offer, but that seems to always be the case when we visit. There’s just so much to do! On our way out we had to stop by the cute news desk they have set up so Ollie could be like his favorite anchors on the Fox 9 Morning News.

They have a little thing you can read and film yourself with and it was pretty cute, Nate and Ollie attracted a bit of a crowd. I’m biased, but Ollie is a pretty cute news anchor though! Speaking of cute, I will leave you with my favorite picture from the evening.

Have you ever seen a cuter couple? Seriously?? Ollie and Callie forever. At least if Jen and I have anything to say about it!

Mythical Creatures will be at the Science Museum through April if you’re local. Definitely check it out. I’m quite excited for the next special exhibit coming – the Science of Pixar! Yep, we’re renewing that membership!

  1. Ollie is one of my favourite names ever – it’s my hair dresser’s child’s name. Well, it’s a nickname for Olive.
What a fun time. That looks like such a great place to go especially for this transitional weather. I really dig the medical part. I am absolutely fascinated by medical equipment. I know it’s really bizarre – but I’m a nurse and that stuff is exciting!

  2. That looks like a great museum! I love the idea of the old medical items – but I’m a little concerned about what the purpose of the vibrating chair would have been?? LOL!

  3. Aww they are too cute! That looks like so much fun. Jona would love the dinosaurs and that car too for sure. I haven’t taken him to a museum in a while (well, since Violet came along) so we really need to get back to doing that! There are some good ones around here that we still haven’t been to.
