The One with All the Fall Stuff

Bonus to anyone who can name the pop culture reference in my blog post title today! But that’s not what this post is about. This weekend was the quintessential Fall weekend. It was weather perfection and we took advantage of every second.

Saturday morning found us at our favorite pumpkin patch, Pinehaven Farms in Wyoming, MN. It was cloudy, but not too cold and not raining, so we figured it was a great day to go pumpkin hunting. I love this pumpkin patch because there is SO much to do. We only spent about two hours there but could easily have been there longer. First we visited the farm animals and gave them some treats.

Then Ollie checked out the riding tractors and tricycles. Last year he couldn’t ride them without help, this year he really got the hang of it and really enjoyed them a lot!

After that we watched them shoot a pumpkin cannon, it’s quite a sight to see, it goes at 250 miles an hour! Then we got on the hayride out to the pumpkins where we found three. Ollie really wanted a green pumpkin, but we also picked out a larger orange one and we let him pick a smaller one that we’ll probably have him paint again.

It was a really fun morning. We grabbed some lunch on our way back home. In the evening we went for a walk at the park near our house, it had sprinkled a bit, but the clouds started to move away and the sun came out as it was going down. Not only were we treated to beautiful fall colors, but we were also treated to a rainbow!

One of my other favorite Fall activities is the apple orchard. We actually hit up the apple orchard several weeks ago now, I’m just behind a little on life. It was not quite as much fun as the pumpkin patch this year because Ollie and I were still getting over our colds, but we still had a nice time at Aamodt’s Apple Farm in Stillwater, MN.

Ollie always loves picking apples and the trees are the perfect height for him. We also did the obligatory “how tall are you picture” to see how much he’d grown since last year.

We stayed there for lunch and found the cutest bench to sit on – it was made to look like the back of a pickup truck. Ollie absolutely loved it.

We’ve certainly made the most of our Fall so far. We’ve been lucky that we’ve been having pretty good weather. I’m hoping that will continue for a bit so we can keep getting outside as much as possible before the snow comes.

What is your favorite Fall activity?

  1. Friends of course!! Love it 🙂 We ventured to the pumpkin patch this weekend too–isn’t it the best to see all these fun fall things through the eyes of our little ones!? Although Ollie was braver than Jona–he didn’t want anything to do with the goats at our patch. Mr. Cautious. And how fun to go apple picking too! That’s one we haven’t yet done but need to!

  2. I’ve been falling asleep to Friends lately!
Poor C. There was an episode of Dora yesterday about the seasons and she cried because it wasn’t summer any more. We really haven’t been taking advantage fall nearly enough for her to see that it’s a great season too. Hopefully this next weekend we’ll go to one of the corn mazes / pumpkin patches in our area, then spend some time playing in the leaves (also known as sabotaging Scott’s raking). It occurred to me this weekend that while we may notice that it’s colder, kids don’t seem to, or at least don’t seem to care. We must take advantage of fall before it turns to winter! (and then learn how to take advantage of winter)
